City Sightseeing Gozo is part of the global City Sightseeing brand, offering open-top bus tours across Gozo’s most popular destinations. With a strong presence in Gozo’s tourism industry, the company provides a convenient way for travellers to explore the island, combining transportation with sightseeing experiences. Their operations involve direct ticket sales, partnerships with third party agents, and on-the-ground staff ensuring smooth daily services for thousands of visitors.

Initial challenge

City Sightseeing needed a ticketing system that could keep up with the growing demand of passengers each day. Their existing setup relied on manual processes, making it difficult to keep accurate track of ticket sales and performance across different channels, leading to inefficiencies for staff and business agents alike.

Key challenges included:

  • No centralised platform to unify ticket sales across different channels.
  • Limited visibility on real-time sales.
  • Cumbersome agent workflows.
  • Tourist experience gaps, such as no easy access to additional services like audio tours and bus tracking.

It became critical to modernise operations with a digital-first approach that improved efficiency, gave management real-time oversight, and elevated the overall tourist experience.

Our solution

We developed a comprehensive ecosystem tailored to City Sightseeing Gozo’s needs, built for both scalability and usability. Beyond implementation, our team also provided strategic guidance on how key aspects of their operations could be optimally digitalised, ensuring that every feature introduced genuine process improvements.

  • Website Ticketing System – A public-facing platform where tourists can purchase tickets directly, access bus routes timetables, and manage bookings.
  • Audio Tours & Bus Tracking Mobile App – A mobile app for tourists that combines audio-guided tours with real-time estimated bus arrival times. When a valid QR code is scanned, the app activates the experience, allowing users to listen to guided content and check bus ETAs throughout their journey. (in progress)
  • Business Agent Portal – A secure platform for resellers to purchase and manage tickets, reducing reliance on manual processes. (in progress)
  • Admin Portal – A centralised hub allowing CitySightseeing to manage website content, ticket prices, promotions, audio tours, agent accounts, and real-time sales tracking.
  • Business Agents Mobile App – A mobile app designed specifically for agents and resellers, enabling them to sell tickets on the go through tap-to-phone payments and instantly issue tickets from the system. (in pipeline)

The result

The new system transformed ticketing into a seamless digital process. Tourists now enjoy quicker, hassle-free boarding with mobile tickets and access to on-demand audio tours. Business agents benefit from an intuitive portal for managing purchases. Meanwhile, City Sightseeing Gozo gained unprecedented visibility into sales data, agent activity, and customer demand. This shift not only reduced manual work but also unlocked scalability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction — ensuring the platform is ready to grow alongside Gozo’s tourism sector.

purpose

To give tourists a seamless, self-service way to purchase tickets online while reducing reliance on on-site sales. At the same time, the system was designed to give City Sightseeing Gozo full visibility and control over sales activity, allowing management to track performance in real time, optimise pricing and promotions, and ensure operational efficiency across peak and off-peak seasons.

solution

We designed and developed a website including bus routes and timetables, ticket purchases, and booking management. Tourists can buy tickets instantly, download them, and receive booking reminders. They can also reschedule bookings automatically. Admins can configure ticket prices, discounts, limits, and blocked dates, as well as view real-time bookings, sales lists, and receipts compliant with EXO standards.

The City Sightseeing Gozo platform marks an important step in the company’s digital transformation journey — introducing efficiency, visibility, and a better experience for both tourists and partners.
